Following a mad month of travel in May, the Blues took a well earned rest last weekend to recuperate ahead of the next home game against Whitehaven at Tilsley Park.
The game marks the 100th competitive match of the young Club now in its fifth season of the Kingstone Press League 1. Sitting mid table following positive results against heartland teams such as York and Hunslet, the Blues’ focus will be on keeping the energy and momentum in the next chapter of the season.
CEO Adrian Smith comments “I’ve got to thank Ray Curry for the heads up on the 100th game mark. Ray is quite the stato on the Club and he’s made a few of us cast our minds back to the first match day against All Golds back in 2013. I can recall the nerves on and off the field being evident but I also remember the excitement and sheer enthusiasm of the day from both sides as two new teams met for the first time.”
In the past four years Oxford RL have developed 3 players from their ranks into Super League players, helped develop fringe Super League and Championship players into first team regulars, along with reigniting players’ careers in Championship sides. To cap this, the club has helped establish the game at grass roots level in the Oxfordshire community.
Smith continued “The club has evolved and improved year on year, the dedication of the staff has been and is amazing and I can’t thank them enough for their commitment and ‘can do’ attitudes. It would be great to see our supporters grow as the team’s performances are heading in the right direction. Fans can be our extra man, they lift the teams and become the key to a club’s progression and that’s one of our objectives this year – to win more hearts and minds to get behind the team. We are very proud of our young lads so please come down to Tilsley Park, Abingdon and bring the family or a friend and meet the boys and make some noise.”
Look out for this weekend’s online programme in which Ray Curry shares some interesting stats on the past 99 matches.
